She always knew what she wanted to wear.

A fashion graduate. A wardrobe full of beautiful things she was afraid to ruin. And the quiet, stubborn conviction that clothes should go where you go, without asking permission.

The beginning

She was five years old the first time she refused to wear a coat over her summer dress.

It was December. Her mother was firm. She was firmer.

The dress was too beautiful to cover up, this was her logic, fully formed, completely unshakeable, at the age of five. The coat went on. The dress went underneath. And the argument, in various forms, continued for the next ten years.

Some people are born knowing what they love. She was born knowing what she wanted to wear.

The education

She went on to study fashion, which surprised no one who knew her. She learned the language of fabric, of cut, of construction. She learned why things last and why things fall apart. She learned the difference between something made with intention and something made with speed.

She also built, slowly and carefully, a collection of luxury summer dresses that she loved completely.

Each one was beautiful. Each one was considered. Each one lived, mostly, in the wardrobe.

The problem

Here is the thing about owning something beautiful: you become afraid of them.

You don’t wear the silk to the beach because of the salt water. You don’t wear the white linen to the market because of the olive oil. You don’t wear the good dress to dinner because what if the wine, what if the chair, what if the entirely unpredictable summer that has no respect for dry-clean-only labels and the ‘please do not breathe in it’.

So you wear the safe thing. The backup dress. The one that doesn’t matter.

The answer

Summer404error began as a question: what if the most beautiful thing you owned was also the easiest thing you owned?

What if it went to the beach without flinching? What if it survived lunch without ceremony? What if you could spill the wine, sit on the sand, swim before dinner, and the dress, your favourite dress, the one that makes you walk differently, was still perfect?

Not because you were careful. Because it was made for exactly this.

Did it ever happen to you?

Wearing something you love, something genuinely beautiful, and spending the whole day worrying about it?

You sit carefully at lunch. You avoid the beach. You spend dinner calculating the distance between the pasta and your dress. You go home intact, technically. But you missed the afternoon. You missed the spontaneous swim. You missed the moment someone reached across the table and knocked over the water and you had to just breathe.

Our pieces are handmade in organic muslin, raw hemp, and French linen, natural fibres that don’t pretend to be precious. They don’t need ironing. They don’t tear at the seams from a day well lived. They get better with salt water, with sun, with the particular kind of chaos that makes a summer worth remembering.

Wear them to the beach. Go straight to lunch. Stay for dinner. When he sits down across from you and can’t quite look away, at you, at the way the linen falls, at something he can’t entirely name, you will not be worrying about the dress.

That’s the whole point.

One piece. All of this:

the beach · lunch · drinks · dinner date · the market · the unexpected swim · bumping into your future husband · and him falling forever for you · (and your outfit, too — obviously)

What we are

Whimsical, but practical.

Beautiful, but unpretentious.

Made for the summers that don’t go to plan, which are always the best ones.

The 404 isn’t a mistake. It’s the whole point.
